For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word “steak” stood for STEAKBURGER. The term “shake” stood for hand-dipped MILK SHAKES. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. To prove his point that his burgers were exceptionally prime, he would wheel in a barrel of steaks (including round, sirloin, and T-bones) and grind the meat into burgers right in front of the guests. Hence arose the origin of our famous slogan, “In Sight It Must Be Right.”

The TAKHOMACARD® must be activated through a completed transaction - please keep your receipt. You can reload your card at participating Steak 'n Shake® restaurants or at steaknshake.com. The card cannot be redeemed for cash and is only valid at participating Steak 'n Shake® restaurants. Steak 'n Shake® is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged or unauthorized use of cards. The card has no expiration date, but after 24 months of card inactivity, a $1.50 per month service fee will be deducted from the card's balance until depleted, except where prohibited or restricted by law. Inactivity fees are charged based on the state in which this card was purchased. Use of this card constitutes acceptance of these conditions. All Gift Card transactions from the Steak 'n Shake® website are conducted in the state of Indiana, and follow Indiana Gift Card commerce regulations.

Redeem In-Store: Recipient: Present the eGift Card barcode from your Smartphone or print this gift card and bring it to Steak ’n Shake® for use. Merchant: Scan the barcode or manually type in the 16-digit gift card number displayed under the barcode into our payment system.
